What Is an Immigration Medical Exam?

An immigration medical exam is a comprehensive health assessment required by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) for individuals applying for:

  • Green card (lawful permanent residence)
  • Adjustment of status
  • Immigrant visa

The exam ensures applicants do not have medical conditions that would make them inadmissible to the United States under immigration law, including communicable diseases of public health significance, physical or mental disorders with harmful behavior, drug abuse or addiction, or lack of required vaccinations.

Only USCIS-designated civil surgeons can complete Form I-693. Dr. Andino is certified by USCIS to perform these examinations.

HOW LONG IS THE I-693 VALID?

Form I-693 validity depends on timing:

Valid for 60 days from the date the civil surgeon signs it

If filed after I-485:

Valid for 2 years from the date the civil surgeon signs it
